Cates Farm Park

Location: 1169 N. First Street

Hours of Operation: Dawn to Dusk

Trail Usage: Walk, Hike, Run,  *NO bikes and NO motorized vehicles allowed including dirt bikes, go-carts

Formerly the Swathmoor-Cates Family Farm, which was a substantial pickling operation in the early 20th century, was slated to be a subdivision until it was purchased by Unique Places to Save. The City of Mebane bought  the 54 acres from Unique Places to Save and partnered with the Department of Transportation to protect the conservation areas.

Conservation easements are in place to protect Mill Creek and other creeks that border the property. The easements protect the land by preventing public usage.

Cates Farm Park has two trails, Wildflower Loop and Forest Loop. Wildflower Loop is .05 miles and Forest Loop is 1.5 miles with mile markers every .25 miles.

The property is split by a Duke Power line easement. The City has an agreement with Duke Power to allow the trails to cross through the easement.

FUTURE PLANS

The City of Mebane is installing a new entrance to the park, an inclusive playground in the Wildflower Loop, restrooms, shelter and a paved driveway and parking lot.

HOW WE HELP

MTR are currently working with the City of Mebane on bench placement, clearing portions of the trails, adding points of interest and maintaining the trail. We also lead hiking groups and different workshops at Cates Farm. Please refer to Classes and Programs for our schedule and JOIN US!
